What makes Georgia real estate worthwhile?

Because Georgia possessed a cotton-based economy dependent on slave labor, it was among the first states to secede from the Union before the Civil War. In the final days of the conflict, Georgians paid a particularly heavy toll for their part in the insurrection. Union troops set Atlanta ablaze as General Sherman began his infamous march to the sea, cutting a swath of waste and destruction nearly 100 kilometers (nearly 62 miles) wide, and fulfilling his pledge to “…make Georgia howl!”

In more recent times, Georgia has overcome hardships such as the devastation of its cotton crops by boll weevils to forge a vibrant and diverse economy. Racial tensions have eased since the strife-torn years of the mid-20th century, but the state’s increasingly urbanized population still faces a number of challenges such as overcrowding and environmental pollution.
