Relocating to New York?

Before you start your journey, take a minute and review what makes New York a great place to work and play.
What makes New York real estate worthwhile?
Because New York holds an eminent position in so many facets of economic and cultural life in the United States, many envision the state as one vast, manic metropolitan sprawl. But in fact, beyond the confines of New York City, the forests, river valleys, and clear lakes that cover much of the state remain tranquil and pristine.
Today New York remains an economic titan, particularly in the fields of finance, publishing, wholesale trade, banking, and international commerce. Its worldwide influence as a center of communications is unequaled: New York is the headquarters for authoritative newspapers such as the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal as well as three major U.S. television networks—ABC, NBC, and CBS.
Although manufacturing activity has tapered off in recent decades, the state’s nearly 30,000 factories still employ almost a million workers and contribute about 15 percent of the gross state product, which is the second highest in the nation. The leading manufactured products are printed materials, precision instruments, industrial machinery, and various chemical products. New York City is unquestionably the state’s commercial hub, but cities such as Rochester, Buffalo, Syracuse, and Albany also play important industrial roles.
In the rural areas of New York, more than 38,000 farms contribute another side to the state economy. Dairy farms concentrated in central and upstate New York produce more milk than those of any other state except Wisconsin and California. Other significant sources of farm income include beef cattle, apples, grapes, sweet corn, and cherries.
New York owes much of its agricultural and industrial prowess to an expansive transportation network that features one of the world’s finest and busiest harbors, the Port of New York, as well as about 1,300 kilometers (about 800 miles) of internal waterways collectively known as the New York State Barge Canal. New York also claims widespread freight and passenger rail lines, two of the country’s busiest airports, and the world’s most extensive subway system, in New York City.
In this state of so many superlatives, it is not surprising that tourism thrives in New York. An abundance of cultural and architectural riches makes New York City the state’s prime attraction, but natural wonders such as Niagara Falls, the Adirondack Mountains, and the sandy beaches of Long Island also contribute to the allure of what is one of the most beautiful and vibrant areas of the nation.
