What makes Pennsylvania real estate worthwhile?

Pennsylvania’s nickname, the Keystone State, alludes to its significance in the early history of the United States. As an early national capital, Philadelphia was the site of the creation and signing of both the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. Pennsylvania became the second state when it ratified the Constitution in 1787.

Since colonial times, Pennsylvania has been an important agricultural state. The state is particularly noted for its production of mushrooms, apples, dairy goods, poultry, and eggs. Commerce, manufacturing, and mining contributed to Pennsylvania’s standing as the industrial hub of the nation in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The abundant bituminous coalfields near Pittsburgh made the city a leader in steel production. With the subsequent decline of the steel and railroad industries, however, Pittsburgh and other industrial cities such as Scranton, Johnstown, and Bethlehem are facing difficult times. In recent years industries such as chemical and pharmaceutical production, oil refining, and metal fabrication have gained in importance. Business and service-sector jobs have also increased to make up for the loss of positions in heavy industry.

The capital of Pennsylvania is Harrisburg. The most populous cities are Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Erie. Pennsylvania is also noted for its strong religious populations, such as Quakers, Amish, Mennonites, and Moravians.
