Year-end market report: Prices up, sales down slightly for 2006 June 22, 2007
Utah home prices for 2006 were up more than 14 percent from 2005 and sales were down 0.44 percent for the year, according to new data released this week by the Utah Association of Realtors.
The UAR’s year-end housing market report indicates the average Utah home price for 2006 was $251,413, up 14.41 percent from 2005’s average of $219,746. The report also showed many places in Utah had appreciation rates in excess of 20 percent, and there were no areas in Utah that experienced price declines.
Regarding sales, the report shows Utah REALTORS® sold 47,041 homes in 2006 compared to 47,247 sales in 2005, a difference of less than a half percent. Despite the statewide drop in sales, many areas ended 2006 with more sales than 2005. In particular, the Brigham/Tremonton area, the Cache/Rich area, Juab County, Morgan County, Tooele County, the Uintah Basin area, Utah County and Weber County all showed double-digit gains in home sales for 2006.
