COMMUNITY PROFILE: BLUFFDALE
General Information
Bluffdale sits at the foot of the Traverse Mountains at the southern tip of the Salt Lake valley. The City is conveniently situated about 20 miles from Salt Lake City, home to the University of Utah, and about 20 miles from Provo, home to Brigham Young University.
Characteristics that make Bluffdale particularly inviting to residents include the Jordan River which runs through the middle of the City, and a rural agrarian lifestyle.
Businesses find Bluffdale attractive because it is bounded by Interstate 15 on the west, Bangerter Highway on the north, and has a major rail corridor through the middle of the City.
Origin of City's Name
The town was originally part of West Jordan. It was named in1886 for the bluffs along the nearby Jordan River.

The community is characterized by large lot development with animal rights. Bluffdale is also home to one of the longest sections of the Jordan River corridor.
