COMMUNITY PROFILE: TAYLORSVILLE
General Information
Taylorsville City's community pride is expressed in many different ways -- well groomed yards, friendly hello's -- but possibly the most apparent expression of community pride is volunteerism. Several hundred volunteers make up numerous advisory committees, and thousands more are involved in city events, religious undertakings and educational activities.
Origin of City's Name
Taylorsville was originally known as North Jordan and was part of West Jordan. The settlement was renamed Taylorsville to honor John Taylor, an early president of the Mormon Church and a member of the Taylor family, early settlers in this area.

Camp Kearns, located partially in Taylorsville, opened in 1942. Just a year later, Camp Kearns had 40,000 residents and was Utah’s third largest city at the time.
