UVSC is becoming A University!

With any change come questions, and the recent approval for UVSC to become a university by July 2008, has met with a number of inquires. Some of the most commonly ask questions are addressed here.

Q Will I be able to get into Utah Valley University?
A Yes! Like UVSC, USU will have an open admissions policy and will remain committed to providing educational opportunities to all citizens at all levels.

Q Which master degrees will be offered and when will they be available?
A The most likely masters degrees will be in Education, Nursing and Business, based on the high demand for these degrees. A time line has not yet been determined but will be established by the Utah State Board of Regents. The soonest UVU's first master degree programs could be available would be fall semester of 2008.

Q Will UVSC remain committed to its community college role?
A Yes! In addition to select master degrees, UVU will continue to offer a wide variety of bachelor and associate degrees, as well as vocation certificates.

Q When will UVU diplomas be issued and can I get one even if I've already graduated?
A University diplomas will be available beginning July 1, 2008. All graduates of UVSC (or UVCC, UTC etc.,) may contact the Alumni Association to have their diplomas reinsured to reflect 'Utah Valley University' after that date.

Q Will tuition go up as a result of university status?
A Tuition rates increase slightly each year statewide. However, the State of Utah has specifically allocated $8 million in ongoing funding for a university mission. Tuition for graduate (maser) level programs will be higher than that of undergraduate programs, as is the case statewide. Tuition is currently comparable to both SUU and Weber and will remain competitive with that of those institutions overall.

Q Along with master's programs, will there be any new bachelor degrees offered?
A Yes! UVSC (UVU will continue to expand its educational offerings of two and four year degree programs in addition to the added master's degree.

Q When will there be a Ph.D. program at UVU?
A There are no plans to offer or seek and PhD. Programs at UVU. The only institutions in the Utah State Higher Education System (USHE) that offer doctorate degree programs are University of Utah and Utah State University. However, as is current practice. Utah State University may offer some doctoral degree programs at UVU facilities.
