General Information
Located just south of Provo, Springville is a modest community of just over 20,000 residents. At the end of 1999, the Springville City Council approved a new 100-acre commercial development, welcoming large business and retail development to the small-town farming community.
With a median age of 25 and an average household size of 3.31, Springville has some of the oldest residents and smallest households in the county. Springville has seen rapid growth recently, gaining nearly 4,500 new residents between 1998 and 2000.
Origin of City's Name
Originally called Hobble Creek by early trappers because their horses lost their hobbles in the creek, the name was changed to Springville because of the many freshwater springs in the area.
Did You Know?
Springville is known as the Art City because of its respected Museum of Art, a Spanish-style building built in 1937 by the Works Progress Association. The museum's collection includes the work of many well-known artists, both local and national. It is especially noted for its annual April Salon, where Utah artists are highlighted. The collections include Utah Art, a major Soviet collection, early Americana, and the Steed collection (European).
